old piece – i’m quite fond of it for various reasons
DIRECTION
She said one day,
that you have to find direction –
in life, in love, in poetry.
Take the first right she said,
and keep going straight till you find your way home –
in life.
Be careful she said,
don’t falter, or pause to see all the amber turn red –
specially when in love.
I knew she was right
so I collected my thoughts, gathered my stuff
and left her – for poetry.

I can see why you’re fond of it. It’s really lovely. My favourite bit is the transition into “Take the first right, she said.” It’s just really nicely done.
The first line asked me to ask you to lose the comma. Though I might have hallucinated that part.

i really enjoyed this poem, too. i agree with kyla about losing the comma in the first line. i loved the line: “don’t falter, or pause to see all the amber turn red.” there’s so much meaning packed into those few words, as well as the fact that it’s a lovely visual.

Having consulted my notes i can assure you that the typo comma is indeed a rebellious rogue element that must be destroyed. However, given my penchant for inappropriate and accidental punctuation and the fact that this comma is now possibly one of the most famous/infamous commas (very few commas in history have received any recognition at all for their work you see) to grace the virtual page – i shall leave it there to irk the idle reader.
The comments are most flattering – thungu!

On an unrelated note, James Baldwin is a writer. Idiot.

the commas got to go!
i like this piece. the last line reminds me of pablo neruda’s poem poetry:
And it was at that age… Poetry arrived
in search of me…
i’m glad you guys are posting poetry… i didn’t realise i’ve been missing it!
